As we are approaching mid-spring, that means summer is just around the corner. People often think of summer as a time to enjoy themselves and can let their health take a backseat. Don’t let that happen to you this summer, make sure to keep in mind both your mental health and physical health. Here are some things to remember to take care of yourself.
Tips for Staying Healthy This Summer
Get Enough Rest
Most people’s routines can get thrown off during summer from vacations to summer outings, but make sure your sleep isn’t suffering. If you keep your room cool and make sure to keep it shaded, chances are you’ll get better sleep and wake up feeling refreshed.
Apply Your Daily SPF
No one likes a bad sunburn, and no one wants funky tan lines. Both can be avoided with sunscreen. Sunscreen can help prevent both skin cancer and the signs of aging. Severe sunburns can cause dehydration as your skin is trying to cure its burn. So, if you do get burnt, make sure to drink an extra glass or two of water to make sure that you are hydrating your skin from the inside out.
Don’t Forget to Move
In the summer months, especially in Boston where it can be humid, it can be tempting to sit back and try and stay cool. On those hot summer days, make sure you stay moving. You can try to get your workout in the morning, before the heat of the day, or in the evening when the day is starting to cool off. You can even break up your day and go for a few shorter workouts.
You should be drinking more water than normal during the summer, especially if there are days when you’re in the sun. For every hour you are in the sun, you should be drinking 1-2 glasses of water. This will prevent dehydration and keep your energy levels up.
