As Phase III begins in Boston, BAC continues to take a careful and cautious approach to reopening. The safety of our members, employees and community is the top priority. We do not yet have a reopening date.

We have all made sacrifices to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and we do not want to sacrifice that progress by opening prematurely.  We appreciate your patience as we all work through this difficult time. No dues will be charged during our temporary closure.

Our virtual programming has been well received and continues to be available online:

Virtual workouts with BAC staff

Story time with Jaime & the kids program staff

JULY 2, 2020
Today the state of Massachusetts announced that gyms and fitness centers can open on Monday, July 6, 2020. As we have said from the beginning, the health and safety of our employees and members is the highest priority.  We will announce our opening when these important points are satisfied:

• Sector-specific state guidance is available (this is not yet available)
• Club operations are adapted to state guidance
• Staff training is completed on state guidance
• Final management & owner approval

While it is exciting to have the opportunity to reopen, we have work to do and must be sure we have done all we can to make every visit as safe as possible.

JUNE 24, 2020
We continue to prepare to reopen BAC and are looking forward to welcoming you back. We are carefully tracking Phase III information and guidance.

As we get closer to Phase III and reopening, a reminder regarding member accounts:
• Club dues are on hold
• All memberships are on freeze at no cost
• Future membership dues will not be charged until the time that club access is permitted

To ensure you are receiving important club updates, LOG IN to your account to verify the email address on file. We will communicate an anticipated reopening date via email and on this page. Check out Mass.gov for the latest updates regarding reopening Massachusetts.

BAC remains temporarily closed in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines. We are buoyed by your messages, participation in #BACTogetherApart programming and the prospect of welcoming our members back.

As we approach May 1, 2020, here is how we are handing member accounts:
• Memberships remain frozen at no cost
• Future membership dues will not be charged until the time that club access is permitted

We hope that you and your loved ones are healthy and taking the steps necessary to remain so. These are challenging times and our daily lives seem to be changing moment to moment.

We want to update you regarding how charges will be managed while Boston Athletic Club is temporarily closed:

• Your membership has been placed on an immediate freeze at no cost.
• No further action is required to freeze your account and any existing freezes will be honored as requested.
• We will extend the expiration date of any unused personal training and babysitting packages.
• Your April membership dues will not be billed.
• Pre-paid programs will resume once we’re able to resume operation and sessions will be fulfilled on a new schedule.
• Outstanding balances which include charges made prior to March 15 will be billed on April 1, 2020.

We need to remain honest about the situation and how it has impacted BAC and our valued employees. As a local, small business, this worldwide pandemic has caused a significant loss of revenue without an equivalent reduction in our expenses like rent, utilities, obligations to vendors, and especially payroll, unemployment taxes and insurance costs for employees.

While memberships and dues are frozen, make no mistake, we are hard at work with our essential staff preparing to welcome our community back to BAC. Free virtual workout content is available through two vendors: Fitness on Demand and Mossa. Find these links on our website or send us an e-mail and we will get you started. Our staff is available daily through our social media channels leading virtual boot camps, trainer-led workouts, meditation and yoga. We are cleaning, painting and maintaining our facilities. We have just finished preventative maintenance on all fitness equipment.

We have provided uninterrupted programs and services in South Boston for 47 years and this unprecedented temporary closure will not stop us. We look forward to welcoming you back to the club. We don’t know how long this will last and we are committed to delivering value when a clear date to resume operations is available.

We are faced with entirely unprecedented circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. BAC Management and Ownership have collectively decided that closing is the only prudent course of action to protect the health of our members, employees and the public at large. We do not know how long this closure will last. We will keep you updated through e-mail, social media channels and our website.

We understand you will have many questions regarding programs and services.  Please know that the health and safety of our members and employees is the highest priority. We will respond to all questions as quickly as we can, however, the situation is fluid and we will be coordinating our plans with those of the city, state, and national health offices.

In the interim, we will provide you with virtual fitness content to continue your commitment to stay healthy.
